Preparing for Online Sessions

LightingWay Counselling & Therapy offers virtual mental health services across Singapore, Malaysia, and throughout Southeast Asia. No matter where you live, we believe in making quality therapy accessible to all through our secure, online platform.

How does online therapy work?

Online therapy requires three main things: a stable internet connection, a device and a private location.  If you have a laptop, mobile phone or a tablet with an internet connection, you'll be good to go.

Preparing for online sessions:

  1. You will receive an email one day before our session with a link.

  2. Please ensure you are in a private place for the session, and you will feel comfortable speaking freely during the session.

  3. You may like to use headphones or earpiece for privacy.

  4. Check that your audio, video, and your internet connection are working.

  5. If you do not receive the link, text me and I will resend.

  6. If the session connection is too poor, we can revert to a phone session.

 

Our online therapy sessions maintain the structure of traditional in-person appointments: start on time, end on time, with the option to schedule your next session if you wish to. You will still have the option to book your own appointments online, and then you will receive a receipt via email.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Therapy is a process of relationship building, exploration, reflection and action between the client and the therapist. If this process works between the client and therapist, therapy will be effective.

 

Research has shown that online therapy is as effective as traditional in-person sessions for a variety of mental health concerns (Varker et al., 2018; Sampaio et al., 2021; Pierce et al., 2020). Through secure video conferencing, you can experience a safe and confidential virtual space to openly discuss issues with a qualified professional, while offering the convenience and comfort of meeting from your own home.
